This year is the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the PSUB, and the PSUB Anniversary Committee has decided to put together a time capsule full of items from ISU's past and present. The capsule will be re-opened in 2059, the PSUB's centennial.
The committee is inviting members of the ISU community to donate items for the capsule. All items brought to the Information Desk in the Rendezvous before Jan. 29 will be considered for placement in the capsule and will be displayed at the Information Desk during the week of the burial.
Due to limited space (the capsule is only 12 by 36 inches), items must be small. Bonnie Frantz, Assistant Director of Idaho State University Student Unions, suggested submitting pins, pamphlets, event programs and predictions for the future. Make submissions as early as possible, as all items must be vacuum packed and sealed for preservation and space-saving purposes before burial.
"We're looking for anything that the people in 2059 might find interesting," Frantz said.
Some submissions have already been made, such as a dress code pamphlet from the 1960s and the earliest copy of the Bengal we could dig up.
The burial will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 29 which will be followed by a birthday bash inside the PSUB, where cake and root beer floats will be served while a live band plays.
The week of the anniversary, decorations and historic photos celebrating ISU's past will be displayed around the PSUB, and ISU's cosmetology and theatre/dance departments will be set up in the lobby of the PSUB to show off attire and hairstyles from past decades.
Friday night, Jan. 30, the LDSSA is hosting a "Dance Through the Decades," beginning at 9 p.m. People are encouraged to dress from their favorite decade from 1950 to 1990.
The week's celebrations will end on Saturday, Jan. 31, with campus tours and a formal gala dinner. Tickets for the dinner are $35 and all proceeds will go to student-leadership scholarships and programming.
"The Pond Student Union is an interactive campus gathering place where a variety of services, programs and activities are offered to enrich student life," Frantz said in a recent press release. "We invite current and former students, faculty, staff and the public to come celebrate with us."
