Native American issues and culture will be promoted through several events at ISU this week. According to Arnold Williams, ISU Pow Wow organizer, the Pocatello Mayor Roger Chase designates the week of March 31- April 6 as Native American Awareness Week. On the ISU campus, the week will offer students and members of the community an opportunity to experience the Native American culture.

The events began Monday, with a Sunrise Ceremony that took place on Red Hill at 6:30 a.m., and moved to Hutchinson Quadrangle, where Mayor Roger Chase showed his support by confirming the week's designation as Native American Awareness Week. An Intermittent dance exhibition, held in the PSUB Ballroom, attracted viewers. Monday night, a Shoshone language presentation was given by Drusilla Gould and Chris Loether.

On Tuesday, an arts and crafts fair in the PSUB Ballroom displayed a variety of work that expressed the culture. An afternoon guest speaker, Viola Cordova presented a speech, titled "Native American Philosophy."
